Americans will travel this year for the purpose of receiving a Medical
or Surgical Procedures overseas...
The concept is called Medical Tourism, or Medical Travel,
and
the industry is in it's infancy, however (Forbes) expect the outsourcing
of patients for medical or surgical procedures will more than double
each year for a least the next five years, and the industry could grow
to $20 Billion (that's with a B) by 2014.
Not only are US patients, their
employers, and even their insurance carriers starting to "get it...",
but in the past 5 years, many of the top US medical facilities have
purchased and/or operate overseas hospitals. Yes, The Mayo Clinic,
Harvard, and #1 rated Johns Hopkins (to name a few), and are among the
group, and 18 major US Medical Schools are affiliated with overseas
hospitals as well. Each are rated among the best in the world by
the same accreditation agency (JCI) that rates US Hospitals. American
Healthcare is currently ranked #37 in the world by the World Healthcare
Organization (WHO), and the overall treatment, length or hospital stay,
and procedure outcomes overseas is certainly equal to, or better than at
home. "We're not talking about 2nd class medical treatment here...
Why is this industry becoming so
popular so fast ???
Well, for starters... a medical or surgical procedure overseas will cost
60-70% Less,
than the identical procedures here in the US, but equally
important is the fact that many procedures are not available in the USA. You HAVE to go overseas to
obtain some of the newest treatments and technologies, and many
US Medical Schools have even opened or operate overseas facilities
because medical technology should not be
shackled by politics and profits.
